What is your opinion on the impact of Social Media on Journalism nowadays?

For many social media has taken over journalism, but in reality it has only made it better. It has given many writers the opportunity to get their message across a lot easier with the use of videos, photos and audio. Yes, the number of those who might still read a newspaper has decreased, but most of the population especially the younger generation, keep up to date with the news through the Internet.

In my opinion, journalism has not been ruined, but only been given the chance to grow. There are so many new ways to write, communicate and give out information thanks to social media. For example, we have Facebook, Twitter, Tumbler, and so many blogs in which is a huge way of communication. It’s as if the Internet serves as an inspiration to those who have blogs and twitter accounts. It gives a chance for everyone and anyone to voice their opinions.

I read this article that I recently found and I liked it. It is a little old, but it get the message through.

If you click on the link below, it will take you straight to the article.  Also, please let me hear your comments. :)

Social Media and Journalism Today

Last night, they talked about something very important on the news that affects many students across the United States. They talked about the application process for getting into colleges and universities. Now-days college applications consist of short answer questions like what is your favorite super hero or what is your favorite amusement park ride? I know for a fact that when I applied to college I didn’t get any of these questions.

When they interviewed the students who were graduation high school and starting to fill out applications, some said that they found it a bit ridiculous that they have to answer these questions. The students that were interviewed didn’t feel that this was in any way relevant to their acceptance into the university or college.

After the students, the reporter interviewed some of the staff in charge of reading college applications. Those interviewed said that some times transcripts and a simple essay does not tell you enough about a person. They would like to get to know the students that enter the university. Transcripts and a GPA can say one thing, but the responses to these questions could say another. One of the women interviewed said that they are not questions that students should stress or think so hard about. They are questions that require a simple answer and a simple way for the college or university to learn a little more about the student.

Hey everyone! I would like to sure with you a couple delicious recipes that are always a hit at any party or get together I take them too.

The first one is the famous 7 Layer Dip. Now you must be thinking that you can just buy it in the local supermarket, but let me tell you that it doesn’t taste the same. The homemade tastes so much better. It is a simple dip that could feed many people and is super delicious.

Ingredients:

  1. Refried Beans – two small cans
  2. Sour cream – 16oz
  3. 1 packet of Taco Seasoning
  4. 4 tbsps of Mayonnaise
  5. Guacamole – two packs
  6. scallions
  7. tomatoes
  8. Sliced Black Olives
  9. 1 pack of Mexican Four Cheese shredded cheese.
  10. 1 aluminum pan
  • First you spread the refried beans across the bottom of the aluminum pan and then open the Guacamole and spread on top of the refried beans.
  • Then you grab a bowl and mix the 1 pack of taco seasoning, 4 tablespoons of mayo, and the 16oz of sour cream. Once it is all mixed you will spread that over the guacamole.
  • Then you chop up the tomatoes and spread it across the previous mix. Then the scallions have to be chopped as well and spread across the tomatoes.
  • Then you are to open the can of black olives and spread them over the tomatoes and scallions.
  • The last step is to spread the cheese all over the top. You will usually use the whole pack of cheese. Once the cheese is put on top your dip is ready. It is best to store it in the fridge a day prior to your event or even just an hour or two before. Dip should be served with tostitos.

The next dish I wish to share with you is called Mango Chutney.

Ingredients:

  1. 1 chicken can
  2. 1 bar of cream cheese
  3. 2 tablespoons of Honey Dijon Mustard
  4. Worcestershire sauce
  5. Mango Jam
  • First you open the can of chicken and mix it with the full bar or cream cheese. Once those are mixed a little, put in the 2 tablespoons of honey dijon mustard and a little bit of the Worcestershire sauce.
  • Once all those are mixed, grab a bowl and form the dip into a ball and place it on the bowl. It should some what look like a paste.
  • After the dip is placed in the bowl, just grab a knife and spread the Mango jam all over. Do not worry about putting too much. It might fall a little, but thats normal. Before you serve the dip make sure to refrigerate it for a couple hours or event a day before. When it comes time to serve you might see that there is a small puddle of mango jam surrounding the dip and that is still ok.
I hope you all enjoy these two recipes. Please feel free to let me know what you think and any other comments or questions you may have.

I Wonder

I wonder if some people see me as some little girl that they can take advantage of or as some naive person that they could toy around as if I have no feelings. When this thought crosses my mind it makes me laugh because they only person that can allow someone to think of me that way, is myself. When it comes to people I think that i am too smart and not as gullible than they think. I seem to impress some people with my thoughts and personality and I like that. Sometimes it’s good to catch people by surprise because it will teach them not to take advantage of me.

When it comes to relationships and men, I think most guys just find me to be inferior to them. I am an independent, open-minded, well-mannered young woman and I think that tends to freak most men out. I mean why would a boy want a girl who can take care of herself and not fall for all their tricks and lies, when they could have a naive and gullible younger girl who has no clue in the world.

Sometimes I am glad that at this point in my life I am single because everyone I meet seems to be the same as the one before. A liar, player, think they could play me kind of person. So to have to deal with that immature kiddy stuff I rather be single and have fun and deal with my own life.

I thought this would be an interesting topic to discuss because I know that many people or should I say  girls are in my same position. If any of you girls are reading this blog feel free to comment and let me know what you think.

So it’s that time of year again. Buying gifts, wrapping, cooking, pictures, family, friends and most importantly, making memories. This is the time of year to be with friends and family and make new memories that will be great topics for future family gatherings.

Many families have problems and family members in which they don’t see most of the year. This is the time of the year when everyone should come together and take advantage that they have a family.

I for one wish all families could do this. In my family, there are so many problems between one another and some members we haven’t seen in so long. There is always a tension between the part of my family that actually gets together and those who never show up. I hate to see this going on because in the end the only ones who get hurt are my grandparents. I guess we just need to enjoy the time we have with those who care and forget the rest because we can’t waste our time and energy worrying about things that can’t be fixed.

Racism Kills

I can’t stand to see the kind of things people say and do to others just because they are of a different race or ethnicity. Everyone is different. We all have different nationalities, traditions, customs and physical features. It’s not right to insult someone else because they have a different skin color or even a different hair color.

For one of my classes this semester, I had to work on a presentation about Discrimination in the work place and how many cases arise each day and what kind of things a person, discriminated against can do.

I also read on a case that occurred in 2008, that got me extremely upset. A black man was insulted by his coworkers and supervisor. He was told things like “We should treat blacks the way Hitler treated Jews, and the South should of won the war because we would of had a better country.” These kind of things make me want to punch someone. Why should he be punished for being African American.

It is nice to live in a world where everyone is different, but I guess some people do not like it. Why does Racism have to exist and make some people really suffer. This is why so many people are killed every day and most people have so many enemies.

What has the world of Journalism become? Thanks to all this new technology written media has really died down. So many newspaper are suffering or have gone out of business thanks to the Internet. Now days, this generation doesn’t pick up a newspaper because all they have to do is go online and read whatever they want there. Thanks to the older generations some newspapers still exist.

I wonder what will happen a couple years from now. Who know what else will be invented. Maybe even one day even broadcast journalism would have died down. Lets hope it doesn’t. It sucks to be entering this field of study and know that when it comes time to find a job it might be a lot more difficult than it was a few years ago.

I for one enjoy Journalism. I enjoy meeting and communicating with new people. I like to interview someone and find out the latest scoop on a certain topic. I like the feeling when my pencil hits my paper or when my fingers hit my keyboard to type up an article. Just the other day I got an article published in my University’s newspaper and it felt great. Come to think of it I am getting another one published in a couple days. It’s nice to see your work published. It’s not the same seeing it online that being able to physically hold it and say “I wrote this.”

Puss in Boots

So I am so happy and excited that I got the internship in the movie/marketing/promoting firm that I am at. Since Thursday of last week I got the opportunity to dress up like Kitty Soft Paws from the new movie Puss in Boots  and go on a costume tour. So Thursday Puss and Kitty soft Paws made a live appearance on Spanish talk show Terra and on Cnn en Espanol and not only that, but we got to have a photoshoot with the Miami Herald.

this is me - Kitty Soft Paws

On Saturday we were featured at the Miami Children’s Expo and then off to Jungle Island for photographs and a Salsa Dancing competition. Then to finish off the tour Puss and I walked hand in hand down the red carpet premiere on Allure of the Seas Cruise Ship. Prior to the red carpet we were featured on live television with the actors that play our voice, Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek. It was an amazing experience to be able to work one of those events.

Here is a link to watch a piece of the event on Entertainment Tonight (just click on “Entertainment Tonight)

Salma Hayek / Antonio Banderas

Doesn’t it suck when you are very happy and feel as if nothing could go wrong and all of a sudden something happens and makes you feel horrible? Yes it does! So many things happen on a daily basis with reasons we have yet to understand.

I guess that is part of life. We live and we learn, we cry and we laugh, we fall and get back up, we make mistakes and we correct them. We grow each and every day with every step we take and every mistake we make. I have learned that everything has a reason for happening. We might not understand why at first, but give it some time and it will make perfect sense.

We stress so many things that are pointless instead of stressing the bigger things that have meaning. What will they think, what should I wear, why did he break up with me, what color should I dye my hair, why did he/she say that, are all questions that we put so much thought into every day. Why don’t we put some more thought into helping the less fortunate, spending time with our families and take advantage that we have one because many people do not have that luxury. Spending time with friends and just taking the time to listen to someone else or maybe donating some food or clothes to the hungry could be a beautiful thing.

I tell you from experience. I have had the chance to feed the hungry and donate to the homeless. They greatly appreciate it. Just to see the look on their face when they receive a warm meal and a new shirt is heart-warming. It will bring a tear to your eye.

I feel like sometime we put so much thought into ourselves and forget that there are other people in the world. If we just take some time out of our lives to think of someone other than ourself maybe there wouldn’t be so much hatred, abuse, enemies etc. in the world.

I got this in an email from a family member of mine and I wanted to share. I got a pretty good laugh out of this.

INSTALLING HUSBAND

A woman writes to the IT Technical support Guy

Dear Tech Support,

Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and I noticed a distinct slowdown in the overall system performance, particularly in the flower and jewellery applications, which operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0.

In addition, Husband 1.0 uninstalled many other valuable programs, such as Romance 9.5 and Personal Attention 6.5, and then installed undesirable programs such as NEWS 5..0, MONEY 3.0 and FOOTBALL 4.1.

Conversation 8.0 no longer runs, and House cleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system..

Please note that I have tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems, but to no avail.

What can I do?

DEAR Madam,

First, keep in mind, Boyfriend 5.0 is an Entertainment Package, while Husband 1.0 is an operating system.

Please enter command: ithoughtyoulovedme. html and try to download Tears 6.2 and do not forget to install the Guilt 3.0 update.
If that application works as designed, Husband 1.0 should then automatically run the applications Jewellery 2.0 and Flowers 3.5..

However, remember, overuse of the above application can cause Husband 1.0 to default to Silence 2.5 or Beer 6.1. Please note that Beer 6.1 is a very bad program that will download the Snoring Loudly Beta.

Whatever you do, DO NOT under any circumstances install Mother-In-Law 1.0 (it runs a virus in the background that will eventually seize control of all your system resources.)

In addition, please do not attempt to reinstall the Boyfriend 5.0 program. These are unsupported applications and will crash Husband 1.0.

In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great program, but it does have limited memory and cannot learn new applications quickly.
You might consider buying additional software to improve memory and performance.

We recommend: Cooking 3.0 and Hot Looks 7.7.

Good Luck Madam!
